ABOUT THE COMPANY – SUBTROP

The South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) is responsible for managing the affairs of the following associations: the South African Mango Growers Association (SAMGA), the South African Litchi Growers Association (SALGA) and the South African Avocado Growers Association (SAAGA).

Subtrop and its members associations activities are mainly funded by levies on local and export market sales. The associations are open to smallholder growers, as well as large corporate operations.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & SERVICE CONTRACT

South Africa Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) founded the Lindsey Milne bursary scheme after the late Dr DL Milne, in memory of his endless contributions to the Subtropical fruit industry. The bursary funds are contributed by the SALGA, the SAAGA and the SAMGA.

The Lindsey Milne Bursary will be awarded to students who wish to study and pursue a career within the South African subtropical fruit industry, particularly those who are studying towards a BSc Agricqualification (majoring in Horticultural Science).

The bursary value will depend on the needs of the students and will be reviewed annually.

Once graduated, students will be required to work for Subtrop for an amount of time equal to their bursary award.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Studying in the aforementioned field of study
  • Studying at a recognised tertiary institution within South Africa
  • Wish to follow a career within the subtropical fruit industry in SA

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY

Student who meet the above eligibility requirements must apply by submitting clear copies of the following supporting documentation (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy),
  • Proof of university registration (on tertiary letterhead)
  • Full academic record/ transcript (on tertiary letterhead)
  • Motivational Letter (from your department head)
  • 3 references (names and contact details)
  • Covering letter with the following details: personal details (full name; contact number; email address; postal address), study details (student number; previous academic performance; university name; university email address; university postal address; name of your department head), details of applicable working experience
